Summary of Qualifications
I have twenty-five years of experience teaching flute performance and pedagogy to students of all levels. I have taught beginning students as well as professionals. My students have been accepted at Universities such as San Francisco Conservatory, McGill University, The Royal College, London, and The Hart School of Music. I currently teacher private students at the college level. I am skilled in all aspects of advanced instruction.
I have extensive orchestral experience. I have been privileged to play under the world's foremost conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, George Solti, Leonard Slatkin, Robert Shaw, Sergei Commissiona, Hugh Wolf, and Jorge Mester.
I am active as a solo performer, performing in major venues around Washington, DC and beyond. Recital performances include the Dame Myra Hess Foundation, which was broadcast live on WFMT radio in Chicago.
I am an experienced music education administrator, serving for eight years as a member of the leadership team at Flint Hill School in Oakton, Virginia.

Dissertation Title: Chamber Music in France Featuring Flute and Soprano, 1850-1950, and a Study of the Interactions Among the Leading Flutists, Sopranos, Composers, Artists, and Literary Figures of the Time.
While at the University, I won the Ulrich Prize for solo performing and was a finalist for the Concerto Competition. I was a scholarship student at the Conservatory and played principal flute in the Conductor's Orchestra, under the direction of Frederick Praunitz. I was a finalist in the Peabody Concours Competition and was presented in recital by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. I studied Baroque Flute with Timothy Day, one of the foremost interpreters of the day, and performed in the Baroque Ensemble. I was privileged to study Music Criticism in a pilot degree program with Irving Lowens and Elliot Gaulkin.

I spent two summers in Aspen, studying with Albert Tipton and Nadine Asin. I played next to both of my teachers in the Festival Orchestra and the Chamber Symphony. I performed with the Festival Woodwind Quintet, coaching with Dan Welcher, bassoonist and composer. I premiered the works of new composers through the Composers Workshop Recitals.

Adjunct Flute Instructor/Woodwind Methods Teacher (Spring Semester 2010): Taught woodwind methods to music education majors at Washington Bible College, including flute performance, clarinet performance, elementary and middle school band instruction, eurhythmics and rhythm instruction, lesson planning, introduction to repertoire.
Loudoun County Public Schools, Loudoun County, VA
Flute Instructor (1989 to present): Working directly with the band director at Seneca Ridge Middle School in the Loudoun County Public School System, I gave master classes, sectionals, and coaching sessions, and private flute lessons to flutists of all levels of preparation from grades six through eight. I continue to serve as an adjudicator for Loudoun County District Band auditions, Senior Regional Orchestra auditions, and for All-District Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Flint Hill School, Oakton, VA
Flute Instructor, Music Theory Instructor, Music Appreciation Instructor (2001-2002): I worked as part of a team of music teachers who were chosen by Flint Hill School to develop an instrumental music program for the school from the ground up. I developed a curriculum for classroom flute instruction and music theory for grades five through eight. In addition to classroom instruction, I taught private lessons, coached sectionals, directed the flute choir, and prepared ensembles for performances.
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Twin Lake, MI
Flute Instructor and Performing Artist (1998 to present): At Blue Lake, I teacher junior high and high school level students and college level counselors on staff with the camp. My teaching includes private instruction, sectionals, group lessons, chamber music coaching, and master classes. In addition, I perform with the Festival Orchestra, the Festival Wind Ensemble, and the Faculty Woodwind Quintet. I recently played Principal Flute in the Opera Orchestra for the world premiere of the opera Ruth as reviewed in Opera News Magazine. I have performed in recital on their subscription series of several occasions. In January, 2002, I performed with the Festival Band at the Midwestern Conference on School Vocal and Instrumental Music. At the conference, I appeared in a panel discussion regarding flute literature for student performance.

Flute Instructor (1989 to present): On behalf of band directors in the Fairfax County Public School System, I gave master classes, sectionals, and coaching sessions to flutists of all levels of preparation from grades five through twelve. I continue to serve as an adjudicator for Fairfax County District Band auditions, Senior Regional Orchestra auditions, and for All-District Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Private Studio Instruction, Alexandria, VA
Flute Instructor (1985 to present): For over twenty-four years, I have given private flute instruction to students of all ages. I have introduced first time students to the flute as young as age six, taught at the junior high school and high school levels, adult amateurs, and prepared college bound flute majors for auditions. I have also coached many conservatory level students in audition preparation for orchestras, competitions, and entrance to graduate schools.

Flute Instructor (1985 to 1986): As a part of my Graduate program in flute, I gave private lessons to one Undergraduate flute major when my teacher, Walfrid Kujala, was on tour with the Chicago Symphony. I supervised her progress and reported to my teacher on grading and performance.
ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE
Flint Hill School, Oakton, VA
Director of Fine Arts (2002 to 2009): Educational and organizational leader of a co-educational day school for approximately 1,047 students from grades Junior Kindergarten through Twelve. As Director of Fine Arts, I am responsible for all aspects of the Fine Arts Program for Grades Junior Kindergarten through Twelve.
Member of the Head of School's Leadership Team. Responsibilities include: recruitment and retention of teaching faculty; support, supervise, and evaluate faculty, academic department heads, and fellow divisional administrators; assist in development of the all-school calendar; oversee the Summer Program in Fine Arts; serve as events coordinator for Homecoming, Grandparent's and Special Friend's Day, and Winterfest.
Oversaw the institution of an Instrumental Music program in Middle School and Upper School, a Dance Program at Middle School and Upper School, and a Graphic Arts Program and Upper School. Developed a Private Music and Dance Lesson Program at the school.
Supervise thirty full-time and part-time faculty and hourly private music and dance instructors. Oversee the scheduling of teaching loads and classes. Worked with school registrar and others to develop a new schedule for Upper School and Middle School.
Oversee a fine arts budget of approximately $167,000.00. Administer financially a Private Music and Dance Lesson Program.
Work with faculty members to increase the size and quality of dance, drama, music, and visual art programs for all students.
Function as Department Chair in the Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School.
Sit on the Curriculum Committee and work with faculty to develop and align the Fine Arts Curriculum.

Performing Member, Operating Board Member (1995 to present) As a performing member of the Friday Morning Music Club, I am presented in recital in major venues across the Washington, DC area. I play principal flute in the Orchestra, under the direction of Sylvia Alimena and Pablo Salazar. The orchestra has performed at such venues as the Kennedy Center, The French Embassy, and The George Mason University Center for the Arts. I have premiered the new music of member composers and am an active collaborate with other artists to commission new works.

Performing Member (1999 to present) I have served as an adjudicator for the Young artist Competition, have coordinated the Maryland Recitals, and have been the Chair of the Young Artist Master Classes at the annual Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair.
